Funding available for beef sector in Alberta

The Livestock Welfare Delivery Agent Program promotes the use of best practices and technologies

Members of Alberta’s livestock sector can now apply for funding to promote the use of best practices and technologies that enhance productive capacity and maintain social licence for agri-food industries in the province.

The Growing Forward 2 Livestock Welfare Delivery Agent Program is aimed at enhancing competitiveness in domestic and international markets by encouraging adaptability and sustainability.

Program participants — who can be individuals, companies, non-profits, or post-secondary institutions — will be reimbursed for up to 100 per cent of eligible costs, subject to a maximum of $300,000 per application and $300,000 per applicant per fiscal year.

Eligible projects include education, implementation, and adoption of national livestock welfare standards and assessment programs, as well as adaptation and implementation of technologies for the improvement of livestock welfare in Alberta.

To be eligible, delivery agents must be dedicated to improved livestock welfare and have a record of successful delivery of programs and services that benefit livestock producers and processors.

Applications completed to the satisfaction of the minister of agriculture will be considered for approval on a case-by-case basis. The application deadline is Dec. 4.
