The public is being asked to comment on the proposed Hardisty Rail Terminal Project.

USD Terminals Canada is proposing to construct and operate nine new rail tracks and loading infrastructure at its existing rail terminal, located 10 kilometres southeast of Hardisty in eastern Alberta. The proposed project would allow the existing facility, which currently loads light crude oil from pipeline to rail car, to handle a wider variety of products such as propane, butane, and heavy crude oil. The facility’s loading capacity would also increase to four 120-car trains per day (up from the current two trains per day) and allow shipments to be brought in by truck.

The Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency must decide whether a federal environmental assessment is required for the proposal.

Comments on the project and its potential effects on the environment must be received by Nov. 30. They can be sent to the agency at CEAA.Hardisty.ACEE@ceaa-acee.gc.ca or writing it at 9700 Jasper Avenue, Suite 1145, Edmonton, Alta. T5J 4C3 (write Hardisty Rail Terminal Project on the envelope).

For more information, go to the Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency website.
