2014 Alberta crop report summary for Southern, Central, North East, North West, and Peace River regions

Seeding is essentially completed with all regions at 95 per cent or better. It is estimated that up to 2 per cent of acres may not get seeded due to excessive moisture. Sixty per cent of crops have emerged. Precipitation in amounts of 25-50 mm was noted in the western portion of the Central region, the North East and North West regions. All other regions received light isolated showers.

Surface soil moisture ratings declined in all regions and were down 9 per cent provincially to 84 per cent rated good or excellent. Sub soil moisture ratings declined to 87 per cent good or excellent from 93 per cent in the last report.

Hay and pasture conditions declined by 2 per cent to 84 per cent rated good or excellent. Ratings declined in all regions with the exception of the North West. Precipitation is needed to halt the ratings decline.

Insects have not been an issue to date with infestations rated as few to moderate.

Crop spraying is underway with 5 per cent completed.
