Alberta Lamb Producers has made these announcements in recent weeks:
A reproduction module of Sheep & Goat Management (SGMA) in Alberta is now available at www.ablamb.ca.Limited print and CD copies will be available for purchase by those who do not have online access.
SGMA was written by Dr Colin Palmer of the Western College of Veterinary Medicine. Thanks also to Dr Kathy Parker of Alberta Lamb Producers and Jackie Dunham & Tamara Taylor of Alberta Goat Breeders Association for their advisory work.
The Canadian sheep industry recently sent a letter to the Minister of Natural Resources, Lisa Raitt, and the Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, Gerry Ritz, requesting that the Ministers collaborate on the design and development of a national strategy on predation. The new national strategy would provide a clear and consistent framework for dealing with predation issues across Canada, while providing sheep farmers with effective, practical tools to protect their flocks and livelihood.
The full briefing to the ministers is available on the CSF website www.cansheep.ca.
Again this year, Alberta Lamb Producers has arranged for Alberta sheep producers to access the Advance Payment Program through a Manitoba agency that already has the service and financial program set up. The new APP loan period begins on April 1, 2009 and the loans mature 18 months later ( Sept 30, 2010).
Sheep producers can now apply for a loan advance, even before they have their enrolment through AgriStability. The ALP office needs a copy of the application filled in by the producer and a form that states it is their intention to follow through with the AgriStabililty coverage.
