Kim McConnell has received the 2015 distinguished agrologist award from the Alberta Institute of Agrologists.
The founder of AdFarm, one of North America’s largest agricultural communications and marketing firms, has been a champion of agriculture, said David Lloyd, CEO of the institute.
“Kim continues to be an industry pioneer where he is relentless at enhancing agriculture’s awareness with stakeholders, media and the general public, particularly urban consumers,” Lloyd said in a press release.
McConnell, David Andrews and John Kolk were the three ‘straw men’ in the Straw Man Beef Industry Initiative, which called for a ranch-to-retail information system, improved beef marketing, and an end to the “silos” in the often fractured beef sector. The former CEO of AdFarm, McConnell is now a senior adviser to the firm and a director on several boards, including the Farm & Food Care Foundation. The foundation recently launched the Real Dirt On Farming campaign targeted at Canadian consumers.
Alberta Institute of Agrologists is a professional regulatory body representing 2,500 professional agrologists.
