Ag plastic recycling to start this fall

Cleanfarms has been chosen to operate a three-year pilot program to collect grain bags and twine in Alberta for recycling. In its first year, there will be up to 20 collection sites in operation this fall, said Alberta Beef Producers, which helped to choose the national non-profit organization to run the pilot.

ABP and the Agricultural Plastics Recycling Group are now in the process of selecting those sites.

“We have had an extremely positive response from municipalities across the province who want to participate in this program,” ABP said in a recent e-newsletter.

In addition to handling the recycling, Cleanfarms will conduct a study on the types and volumes of ag plastics in the province.
