Alberta finishes first in national speaking competition

Emmett Sawyer of Acme took top spot in the senior division of the Canadian Young Speakers for Agriculture competition.

Sawyer was the 4-H representative for the province at the public speaking competition held annually at Ontario’s Royal Agricultural Winter Fair since 1985.

Carmen White of Claresholm was the runner-up in the junior division, which was won by Ontario’s Nate Caughill.

White won the provincial edition of the competition to earn a spot at the nationals. Her presentation on sustainable beef was featured in the Aug. 22 edition of the Alberta Farmer.

This year’s event attracted 29 competitors aged 11 to 24 from across the country.
