One million hits are one million reasons to visit! The Agriculture and Food Council’s says its industry careers website www.soiltosky.careached its one millionth visit in late February.
“This milestone is evidence that youth, students and young professionals need a place to research, gather and source opportunities in agriculture and food in Alberta and Canada,” Larry Malazdrewicz, chair of the Agriculture and Food Council action team involved in the portal’s development, said in a release. The website has new information added weekly. Features such as a Careers Podcast were added when the website underwent a redesign in March 2008.
Soil to Sky aims to draw young job hunters toward an agriculture and food career by providing career information and links to employers in a single location. The website was created in 2006 in response to the worker shortage in many sectors of Alberta’s economy, including agriculture and food.
The Soil to Sky web portal is one of five human resource sub-projects created under the Council’s Sustainable Human Resource Initiative Project (SHRIP), funded under Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada’s Advancing Canadian Agriculture and Agri-Food (ACAAF) program.
