Former directors appeal to the Supreme Court

The eight former farmer-elected directors of the Canadian Wheat Board (CWB) are asking the Supreme Court of Canada to rule on whether the federal government needed to hold a producer vote before changing the board’s mandate.

“We believe that this case raises issues that are important to all Canadians and is worthy of careful consideration by the Supreme Court of Canada”, said Allen Oberg, farmer and former chair of the CWB in a release.

A federal court judge agreed with the former director’s arguments late last year, but his ruling was later overturned by an appeal court. The Supreme Court can agree to hear the case or it can refuse.
