Darcy Fitzgerald has been appointed executive director of Alberta Pork, succeeding Paul Hodgman, who announced his retirement last year (see page 50). Fitzgerald, who is well known in livestock circles in the province, assumes his new position May 1.
Previously, Fitzgerald was director of industry investments with the Alberta Livestock and Meat Agency Ltd. Before that he served as the general manager of the Alberta Livestock Industry Development Fund. He has also served as an agrologist and manager with Alberta Agriculture and Rural Development, as well as holding positions in industry.
“Darcy has a firm understanding of the challenges our pork industry faces today and the approaches being considered through the Alberta Pork Revitalization Strategy. He has the experience and management training to be part of the transition to a new era,” said Jim Haggins, Alberta Pork chairman.
