INDIA MAY RESUME WHEAT EXPORTS

Reading Time: < 1 minute

A panel of India’s federal ministers last week was to take up the issue of freeing more wheat for states as part of efforts to trim bulging stocks, government sources said. Wheat output in India, the world’s second-biggest producer, is expected at a record 82 million tonnes this year against an all-time high of 80.7 million tonnes in 2009, government officials say, exacerbating storage concerns. Trade Secretary Rahul Khullar told reporters his ministry favoured allowing wheat exports but the decision would be taken by the farm ministry.
