Record Paraguay Soy Crop

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Paraguay could produce a record soy crop of between 8.5 million and nine million tonnes this season due to forecasts for more rains than expected over the next few months, an industry official said Oct. 17. Farmers in the world s No. 4 soybean exporter had feared that dry weather related to the La Nia weather anomaly could limit 2011-12 soy production, but a senior official from Paraguay s Soy and Oilseeds Chamber said the improved weather outlook meant output could now exceed last season s record of 8.4 million tonnes. We don t see a change in planted area because of the late rains, said Andre Pessoa, director at Agroconsult analysts. Reuters
