WINNIPEG, Feb. 28 (MarketsFarm) – The following is a glance at the news moving markets in Canada and globally.

– Five more countries reported their first cases of the COVID-19 coronavirus, raising concerns that it could soon turn into a global pandemic. More events were being cancelled, including the Geneva car show in Switzerland and Facebook’s annual conference. International financial markets have dropped sharply over the past week.

– The ongoing Syrian conflict escalated on Friday, with Syrian airstrikes in the northwestern part of the country killing at least 33 Turkish soldiers, according to reports. Russia has denied involvement in the strikes, but is allied with the Syrian government.
