– The Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) stated on Friday that the number of COVID-19 cases could jump to 30,000 people per day. That’s based on new modelling in which people increase their outside the home contacts. If people maintain their current level of contacts the number of reported cases could rise to about 13,000 per day from the current 7,900. The PHAC added that 2,000 more people could die from COVD-19 over the next 10 days with upwards to 100,000 contracting the deadly virus.

– Federal prosecutors in the United States alleged on Thursday that the riotous mob that stormed Capitol Hill last week planned to assassinate elected officials, including Vice-President Mike Pence. Prosecutors said Jacob Chansley, infamous for his painted face and wearing horns, allegedly left a note for Pence stating, “it’s only a matter of time, justice is coming.” The FBI has tracked down more than 200 suspects involved in the attack and more charges are pending as the investigation continues.
– The Netherlands Prime Minister Mark Rutte and his government resigned on Friday following a scandal in which approximately 10,000 families receiving childcare subsidies were accused of fraud by bureaucrats. An inquiry found that Dutch bureaucrats used ethic profiling to target families. With the country’s next election scheduled for March 17, Rutte’s center-right government will remain in a caretaker role.
