A beef expert from Brazil will be the first holder of the BCRC-Hays Chair in Beef Production Systems at the University of Alberta.
Gleise M. Silva has a PhD in beef cattle nutrition from the University of Florida and in her new role “will collaborate with beef producers, translating research into practical solutions to create a more sustainable and competitive beef industry,” said the Beef Cattle Research Council.
The position is funded by the council and the well-known Hays family, with additional support from McDonald’s Canada and Cargill. Silva said her work will focus on practical applications of research, such as protecting grasslands, reducing stress in cattle, and lowering winter feeding costs.
