Canadian Financial Close: Loonie, crude oil lower to end week

WINNIPEG – The Canadian dollar moved further below the 75 United States cent mark on Friday.

The loonie closed at US$0.7471 or US$1=C$1.3385, down from US$0.7491 or US$1=C$1.3350 on Thursday.

The U.S. Dollar Index rose 0.28 of a point at 106.97.

Crude oil prices dropped on Friday due to reduced global demand. Brent crude oil tumbled US$2.01 per barrel to US$87.77. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude oil fell US$1.44 at US$80.20/barrel. Western Canadian Select (WCS) was down US$1.80/barrel to US$53.19.

The TSX/S&P Composite Index gained 96.33 points to 19,884.58.

Gold plunged US$12.50 at US$1,750.50 per ounce.
