Canadian dollar and business outlook

WINNIPEG, April 6 (MarketsFarm) – The Canadian dollar was holding near unchanged Wednesday morning, lacking any clear direction.

At 8:46 a.m. CDT Thursday morning the Canadian dollar was at US$0.7405 or US$1=C$1.3504, which compares with Wednesday’s close of US$0.7431 or US$1=C$1.3457.

Canada added 35,000 jobs in March with the unemployment rate holding steady at 5.0 per cent, according to a report from Statistics Canada. The employment data beat average expectations that had called for a more modest increase of 7,500 jobs.

Crude oil was slightly softer Thursday morning, with West Texas Intermediate down by 0.1 per cent at US$80.51 per barrel.

The TSX dipped by 43.62 points at 8:46 CDT, trading at 20,115.93 points.
