– The International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU) Canada announced on Thursday it has reached a deal with the British Columbia Maritime Employers Association (BCMEA) for the second time in a week. The union’s contract caucus will vote on the deal on Friday and if passed, will be sent to its membership for ratification. Over the past week, the ILWU rejected a federally-mediated agreement as well as delivered and then revoked a strike notice.

– Farm storage buildings in the Odesa region of Ukraine were destroyed by Russian missiles on Friday in the latest act of violence against agricultural infrastructure near port cities in the country. Seven Russian missiles also attacked a facility southwest of Odesa hours later, injuring two people and destroying 100 tonnes of peas and 20 tonnes of barley.
– The White House announced Friday it has secured commitments from companies including Amazon, Alphabet, Meta and Microsoft that they will implement safeguards on their future artificial intelligence products. Some of the commitments include third-party oversight on commercial AI systems, methods for reporting vulnerabilities in their systems and using digital watermarks to determine if images are real or AI-generated.
