  • The United States military finished installing a floating pier off the coast of Gaza on Thursday, with humanitarian aid set to start arriving by sea. Meanwhile, heavy fighting continues in the Palestinian enclave, with Israeli forces reportedly striking residential buildings and an ambulance in the Jabalia refugee camp.

 

  • Russian President Vladimir Putin is in Beijing Thursday to meet with Chinese leader Xi Jinping. The two allies reaffirmed their “no-limits” partnership, with the meeting coming at a time of escalating fighting in Ukraine and renewed trade tensions between China and the U.S.

  • Anti-Islamist populist leader Geert Wilders of the Netherlands has reached a provisional agreement with three other parties to form a hard right government in the country, roughly six months after Geert’s far right PVV party won a quarter of the national vote in an election. Netherland’s next prime minister is not yet known, as Wilders gave up that opportunity as part of the coalition deal.
