Canadian Dollar and Business Outlook: Loonie advances with oil

Glacier FarmMedia MarketsFarm – The Canadian dollar moved further above the 73 United States cent mark coming out of the weekend.

The loonie was at US$0.7333 or US$1=C$1.3637 as of 8:34 a.m. CDT, compared to US$0.7314 or US$1=C$1.3673 on Friday. The U.S. Dollar Index was down 0.05 of a point at 104.68. Markets in the U.S. are closed until Monday evening due to the Memorial Day holiday.

Crude oil prices were higher due to speculation over U.S. demand and ahead of an OPEC+ meeting next week. Brent crude oil rose US$0.70 at US$82.82 per barrel. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) increased US$0.69 at US$78.41/barrel.

The TSX/S&P Composite Index gained 40.66 points at 22,361.53.

Gold jumped US$17.80 per ounce at US$2,352.30.
