The following is a glance at the news moving markets in Canada and globally.

  • Ukraine has signed a security agreement with the European Union and two of its member countries – Lithuania and Estonia. The agreements, signed at a summit in Brussels, complement other similar deals pledging weapons and military aid to Ukraine.

  • A coup attempt in Bolivia failed Wednesday, with the rogue military commander who led the attack on the government arrested on live TV. While the military units failed to gather much support to sustain the coup after taking over La Paz’s central square and ramming the presidential palace with an armoured truck, the attempt was seen as highlighting the country’s economic and political turmoil ahead of elections next year.

  • Israeli forces stormed a Gaza City neighbourhood on Thursday, intensifying efforts in what it says is an effort to rout Hamas militants from the area. Palestinians were reportedly ordered to move south as tanks rolled in.
