Canadian Financial Close: C$ slightly firmer Wednesday

Glacier FarmMedia — The Canadian dollar was slightly firmer on Wednesday.

Minutes from the Bank of Canada’s latest policy decision showed the Governing Council was split on whether rates need to fall further after leaving the key rate unchanged at 2.75 per cent in July. The next policy decision is on Sept. 17.

The Canadian dollar settled at US$0.7264 or US$1=C$1.3767, which compares with Tuesday’s close of US$0.7260 or US$1=C$1.3775.

Crude oil was softer, with West Texas crude oil down by 0.71 per cent at US$62.72 per barrel.

The TSX Composite Index was up 72.17 points at 27,993.43 points.
