Canadian Dollar and Business Outlook: Little movement for loonie

Glacier FarmMedia — The Canadian dollar was steady Friday morning after losing ground on Thursday.

The loonie was at US$0.7247 or US$1=C$1.3799 as of 8:29 a.m. CDT, compared to Thursday’s close at US$0.7243 or US$1=C$1.3806.

The United States Dollar Index was down 0.35 of a point at 97.91.

Crude oil prices were lower on Friday prior to the meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin. The U.S. Energy Information Administration cut its short-term Brent crude oil price forecast to an average price of US$67.22 per barrel in 2025 and US$51.43/barrel in 2026.

Brent crude oil was down US$0.86 per barrel at US$65.98/barrel. West Texas Intermediate fell US$1.00 at US$62.96/barrel.

The TSX/S&P Composite Index added 8.18 points at 27,907.81.

Gold was up US$1.40 per ounce at $3,384.60.
