Glacier Farm Media | MarketsFarm – The following is a glance at the news moving markets in Canada and globally.

 

  • Day two of the Pro Farmer crop tour brought results from Indiana and Nebraska. In Indiana on Tuesday, corn yields increased from last year to 193.82 bushels per acre, but the soybean pod count dropped to 1,376.59 per square yard box. In Nebraska yesterday, corn yields nudged up from a year ago at 179.50 bu./ac. while soybean pod counts improved to 1,348.31.

  • The United States Department of Commerce announced on Tuesday it will hike steel and aluminum tariffs to 50 per cent on 407 products. Effective immediately this includes bulldozers, mobile cranes, wind turbines, railcars and furniture. Also hit will be automotive exhaust systems and electrical steel for electrical vehicles.

 

  • The U.S. Department of Agriculture reported two private sales of 2025/26 corn on Wednesday. One is for 100,000 tonnes to Colombia and the other is 125,741 tonnes to Mexico.

 

  • China is looking to buy oil from Russia that had been earmarked for India, CNN reported on Wednesday. The Trump administration has been pressuring the Modi government with steeper tariffs for India to veer away from sourcing its oil from Russia. CNN said that at least 15 cargoes ranging from 700,000 to one million barrels each of Russian oil have now been acquired by China.

 

  • Manitoba Agriculture reported on Tuesday that harvesting was estimated to be four per cent complete provincewide. That included winter wheat and fall rye at 52 per cent finished with field peas at 19 per cent. Barley reached eight per cent done with spring wheat at six per cent and oats at four per cent.
