The 10 years to 2010 were the warmest since records began in the 19th century, confirming a long-term warming trend, the UN’s World Meteorological Organization (WMO) said Jan. 20. In a report saying 2010 had tied with 2005 and 1998 as the warmest year, the WMO also said the years from 2001 to 2010 had averaged 0.45 C above the 1961-90 average of 14.0 C. It said the temperature was “the highest ever recorded for a 10-year period since the beginning of instrumental records” and confirmed a “significant long-term warming trend.”
