Bayer supports Olds centennial

Bayer CropScience Canada has supported Olds College’s 2013 centennial preparations with a Dean’s Level sponsorship of $10,000.

“Bayer CropScience and Olds College both share the same passion for agriculture and the people who practise it,” Paul Thiel, vice-president of Innovation and Public Affairs for Bayer Crop- Science said in a releae. “We are proud to be part of Olds College’s centennial celebrations and look forward to being part of their next 100 years.”

Farming Smarter receives financial boost from Alberta government for potato research

Farming Smarter near Lethbridge got a boost to its research equipment, thanks to the Alberta government’s increase in funding for research associations.

“With 11 signature events along with numerous other great initiatives planned for our year-long celebrations, sponsors like Bayer Crop- Science are vital,” said Kerry Moynihan, Olds College centennial general manager.

New board members at AFAC

Heini Hehli, a Rimbey-area dairy producer, has been elected chair of Alberta Farm Animal Care (AFAC). Hehli represents Alberta Milk, where he has served as a delegate for more than 20 years. “Farm animal care, for my family and for me, is what our job is about as producers,” says Hehli of the 100-cow operation he runs with his wife, son and daughter- in-law.

Larry Delver, Calgary-area-based veterinarian and cattle producer, is new vice-chair, representing the Western Stock Growers Association, where he is first vice-president.

Brian Chomlak, from Beauvallon, represents Alberta Beef Producers and will serve as AFAC finance chair. Chomlak and family have a mixed farming operation with cattle and sheep.

Continuing as past chair is Doug Sawyer, who runs a cow-calf and backgrounder operation in the Pine Lake area and represents Alberta Beef Producers.
