Albertans Laura Bodell and Rae-Leigh Pederzolli have been elected as members at large on the Young Cattlemen’s Council. They join another Albertan, Jake Meyer, who is president of the council.
The organization was formed last year to provide leadership and learning opportunities for young producers aged 18 to 35.
Council members sit on Canadian Cattlemen’s Association committees in an ex officio capacity, providing a youthful perspective on agenda topics. The council also works with CCA directors and staff on upcoming projects and initiatives. Goals for 2015 include increasing membership and engagement as well as establishing an annual event.

Its mission also includes raising knowledge and awareness of beef industry policy development amongst youth in the industry.
As part of their recent annual general meeting in Edmonton, council members visited the headquarters of the Alberta Livestock and Meat Association, and toured Cargill’s beef patty-processing facility in Spruce Grove.
Young cattle producers can join the council by completing a membership application available at the Young Cattlemen’s Council website.
