Pulses: AGT posts strong earnings report

Winnipeg, March 22 (CNS Canada) – Following are a few highlights in the Canadian and world pulse markets on Tuesday, March 22.

– Pulse company AGT Food and Ingredients of Saskatchewan released its latest financial report on Monday, seeing revenues of C$1.7 billion in 2015, which was up by 25% from the previous year. Record large pea and lentil exports during the fourth quarter were cited as one reason behind some of the company’s strength.

– The USDA bought US$2.2 million worth of pinto and small red beans as part of its Food for Peace and McGovern-Dole Food for Education programs, according to reports.

– Pulse bids in the United Kingdom have been on the rise in recent weeks, due in part to a lack of willing sellers, according to a report from the British Edible Pulse Association.

– Green pea prices in the C$8.50 to C$9.75 per bushel range are being reported in Western Canada. Meanwhile, yellow peas have eased off of their highs, with top-end bids losing about 50 cents over the past week to come in at C$14.00 per bushel in some locations. Red lentil bids of 51 cents per pound now being reported in some locations. Meanwhile, number two large green lentils are hitting prices as high as 75 cents and number ones have topped 80 cents at some locations.

– Chickpea prices in Western Canada also remain strong, with large caliber Kabulis’s trading as high as 47 cents per pound.
