Pulses: India hones in on Tanzania as pulse supplier

Winnipeg, July 11 – Following are a few highlights in the Canadian and world pulse markets on Monday, July 11.

– India’s Prime Minister has wrapped up, what is by all accounts, a successful visit to Tanzania. In particular, Prime Minister Narendra Modi discussed his country’s interest in buying pulse crops from the African country. India has already agreed to fund commercial production of peas in the country, in a bid to secure additional pulse imports.

– According to APK-Inform Agency, Russia exported 2,800 tonnes of peas in the week ended July 10.

– Lentil plantings in Australia are expected to increase through Victoria and South Australia, according to a report in the Stock and Land. Chickpea plantings in New South Wales and Queensland are also expected to be large.

– Navy beans are attracting prices of 29 cents (Canadian) per pound at elevators across Western Canada. In North Dakota, farmers are getting prices of 30 to 31 cents (Canadian) per pound, according to the Prairie Ag Hotwire.
