Winnipeg, Sept. 2 (CNS Canada) – Following are a few highlights in the Canadian and world pulse markets on Friday.
– Canada exported 130,700 tonnes of peas during the week ended August 28, which was up from 25,600 tonnes the previous week, according to the latest Canadian Grain Commission data.
– Canadian pea stocks at the end of the 2016/17 (Aug/Jul) marketing year are now forecast to be considerably larger than early expectations, while lentil supplies should be tighter, according to the latest supply/demand estimates from Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada. The government agency raised its pea carryout forecast to 900,000 tonnes, from 300,000. That would compare with 200,000 tonnes carried forward from the 2015/16 crop year. Lentil ending stocks were forecast at 475,000 tonnes, which would be down from an earlier estimate of 850,000, but still above the 2015/16 level of 175,000.

– Number 2 Laird lentils are currently topping out at about 47 cents per pound in Western Canada, according to Prairie Ag Hotwire data. Red lentils are bid at up to 32 cents per pound.
– Green pea prices range from C$6.70 to as high as C$7.75 per bushel in Western Canada. Yellow peas range from C$6.15 to C$7.10 per bushel.
