Winnipeg, November 16 – Canadian pea and lentil
prices are on the upswing, according to the latest data from the Prairie Ag Hotwire. Lentil bids have increased by two cents per pound over the past week, while peas, both green and yellow have risen by 50 cents per bushel at the top end. Number 2 Laird lentils are currently between 47 to 60 cents per pound in Western Canada, while number 1 Estons are between 45 to 60 cents per pound.

Canada’s pulse industry is one of several agricultural groups voicing concern about the potential demise of the Trans-Pacific Partnership. The group is a member of the Canadian Agri-Food Trade Alliance which recently asked Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to sign deals with Asian countries like Japan and China, should the TPP be scrapped by the incoming Donald Trump presidency.
Farmers in northeastern Australia have been cashing in on chickpea prices, according to a report in farmonline.com. Drought and supply problems temporarily lifted the chickpea price from AU$800 per tonne to AU$1,000 per tonne. While the spike was just temporary, officials with New Pulse Australia say everything could change in March when the new Indian crop begins to enter the market.
