Winnipeg, Nov. 25 (CNS Canada) – Canadian pea exports are still running well ahead of the year-ago pace, according to the latest weekly Canadian Grain Commission data.
The country exported 36,900 tonnes of peas during the week ended November 20, bringing total exports-to-date to 1.59 million tonnes. That compares with 1.19 million at the same point a year ago. Year-to-date lentil exports, at 498,900 tonnes, are right in line with the previous year’s pace.
Number 2 Laird lentils are currently topping out at about 63 cents per pound in Western Canada, while red lentils are bid up to 34 cents per pound, according to the latest Prairie Ag Hotwire data.

Green pea prices range from C$7.50 to as high as C$9.00 per bushel in Western Canada. Yellow peas range from C$6.85 to C$8.55 per bushel.
Large calibre (10mm) kabuli chickpeas are currently seeing prices top out at 65 cents per pound in Western Canada. However, actual supplies that would meet the criteria are few and far between. Most of the country’s chickpea crop is likely destined for feed channels, with feed prices in the 25 to 32 cents per pound area, according to industry sources.
