Pulses: Russia bumps up pea exports

Winnipeg, December 29 – Russia has upped its shipments of
peas to customers overseas. According to information from APK-
Inform Agency, Russia exported 5,200 tonnes of peas during the
week of December 16-23. That is up from a few weeks ago when
just 3,000 tonnes were shipped out from Russian sea ports.
Pakistan is hosting a noted agronomist from Australia, in a
bid to learn more about improving pulse crop production. Phil
Bowden and a team of researchers are talking with farmers about
adopting new growing techniques for chickpeas, lentils and other
crops.
Farmers in Ghana are calling on the government to help
support the struggling bambara bean industry. A report in the
Ghana Star quotes some farmers who say erratic rainfall has hurt
this year’s crop, throwing the industry into turmoil. They are
hoping to adopt new strategies and management techniques to deal
with weather challenges and pests.
