Winnipeg, Jan. 9 (CNS Canada) – Canada exported 56,000 tonnes of peas during the two-week period ended January 1, according to the latest Canadian Grain Commission data. Total pea exports to date, of 1.88 million tonnes, are running well ahead of the 1.38 million tonnes exported during the same time period the previous marketing year.
The USDA bought 12,500 hundredweight of pinto and black beans valued at roughly US$475,000 for export, according to a report from Northarvest Bean Growers.
India’s state of Madhya Pradesh, a major pulse grower, is working to increase production of pulses to at least eight million tonnes over the next three years, from current levels of roughly five million, according to the government officials in the state.

Number 2 Laird lentils are currently topping out at about 57 cents per pound in Western Canada, while red lentils are bid up to 35 cents per pound, according to the most recent Prairie Ag Hotwire data.
Green pea prices range from C$7.50 to as high as C$8.50 per bushel in Western Canada. Yellow peas range from C$6.85 to C$8.00 per bushel.
Large calibre (10mm) kabuli chickpeas are currently seeing prices top out at 53 cents per pound in Western Canada.
