Winnipeg, February 16 – Prices for eston X3 lentils in Western Canada were down six cents overnight, to a range of 36 to 45 cents per pound according to the Prairie Ag Hotwire. Prices for number three lentils across the Prairies, dipped by three cents overnight, to fall into a range of 26 to 40 cents per pound.
Prices for Saskatchewan feed peas dropped by C$1.00 overnight to C$3.40-$5.60 per bushel.
Black beans continue to hang steady in Western Canada at 39 cents per pound.
A lack of containers is causing headaches for many Australian companies trying to ship pulses these days, according to a report on farmonline.com.au. The report says many exporters are trying unsuccessfully to secure food-grade 20-foot containers. The problem is many of the containers that arrive daily in Australia are 40-foot boxes that are tough to properly fill and then load. When 20-foot containers do become free they have to be cleaned first, which can take time. As a result, some companies apparently overbook how many containers they need as a precaution.
