Winnipeg, April 3 (CNS Canada) – Canada exported 84,200 tonnes of peas during the week ended March 26, bringing year-to-date exports to 2.5 million tonnes, according to the latest Canadian Grain Commission data. Total pea exports are running ahead of the previous year’s pace by about 500,000 tonnes.
Weekly Canadian lentil exports of 25,100 tonnes brought the year-to-date total to 646,500 tonnes, which is about 80,000 tonnes ahead of the previous year.
India’s decision to extend a deadline on imposing stricter fumigation rules on Canadian pulse imports until June 30 remained somewhat supportive for the Canadian pulse sector, with industry officials expressing confidence that a longer-term agreement can still be reached.

Top end large green lentil bids are holding relatively firm, with number 2 Lairds currently topping out at about 48 cents per pound, according to Prairie Ag Hotwire data. New crop bids, meanwhile, range from about 32 to 37 cents per pound.
Red lentil bids range from about 21 to 22 cents per pound, with new crop prices topping out at 25 cents.
Green pea bids range from C$7.65 to C$8.50 per bushel in Western Canada. Yellow peas range from C$6.70 to C$8.75 per bushel, according to Prairie Ag Hotwire.
Large calibre (10mm) kabuli chickpeas are currently seeing prices top out at 56 cents per pound in Western Canada, which is up five cents over the past week as supplies of the good quality chickpeas become nearly non-existent.
