Winnipeg, April 7 (CNS Canada) – Canada exported 117,700 tonnes of peas during the week ended March 26, the largest weekly movement since September. The latest exports brought the year-to-date total to 2.64 million tonnes, according to the latest Canadian Grain Commission data. Total pea exports are running ahead of the previous year’s pace by about 600,000 tonnes.
Weekly Canadian lentil exports of 21,100 tonnes brought the year-to-date total to 667,600 tonnes, which is about 100,000 tonnes ahead of the previous year.
Concerned over possible cuts to food aid programs, roughly 80 US farm and related groups signed a letter to the House Ag Appropriations Subcommittee urging that the programs stay.

Top end large green lentil bids are holding relatively firm in Western Canada, with number 2 Lairds currently topping out at about 48 cents per pound, according to Prairie Ag Hotwire data. New crop bids, meanwhile, range from about 32 to 37 cents per pound.
Red lentil bids range from about 21 to 25 cents per pound, with new crop prices also topping out at 25 cents.
Green pea bids range from C$7.65 to C$8.50 per bushel in Western Canada. Yellow peas range from C$6.70 to C$8.75 per bushel, according to Prairie Ag Hotwire.
Large calibre (10mm) kabuli chickpeas are currently seeing prices as high as 70 cents per pound in some cases, although a lack of supplies may limit any actual movement.
