Pulses: Rain pushing back Ontario pea planting

Winnipeg, May 31 – Pea farmers in parts of Ontario are seeing some delays in getting the crop in the ground, according to a report on baytoday.ca. Excess rain is cited as the key reason why.
A new smartphone tool is showing dividends for pulse farmers in Australia. The app was developed by the Grains Research and Development Corporation, according to a report in The Weekly Times. It offers growers a two-way alert system, where diseases and pests can be photographed, uploaded and shared throughout the network. According to the story, alerts were released about Russian aphids, ascochyta in chick peas and a number of other disease pressures.
Prices for richlea number one lentils are hanging steady across Western Canada. Prices are listed at 44 to 50 cents per pound, according to the latest information from the Prairie Ag Hotwire.
Green peas on the Prairies are locked in a range of C$7.80 to C$8.50 per bushel.
