Pulse Report: Manitoba peas taken off fields; Questions swirl around green lentils

Aug. 15 (CNS Canada) – Harvest is underway on early types of pulses in Manitoba, with pea fields being taken off in most areas. In the central region, peas are yielding 50 to 80 bushels/acre. In the interlake region, peas were reportedly yielding 70-80 bu./acre.
Cases of leaf drop due to dry conditions were reported on early edible beans in Manitoba’s central region. Instances of white mould were also being reported in fields with heavy canopies.

Here are conditions for United States dry, edible beans in the top-producing states.
– North Dakota: Condition ratings for bean crop showed solid improvement to 57 per cent rated good to excellent, compared to 51 per cent a week ago. Nineteen per cent of the crop is rated poor to very poor, as many regions of the state continue to battle drought.
– Nebraska: Crops are developing ahead of the five-year average with 85 per cent setting pods compared to 80 per cent for average development. Almost three-quarters of the crop, 73 per cent, is rated good to excellent, while 14 per cent is rated poor to very poor.
– Minnesota: Most of the crop, 83 per cent, is setting pods. Condition is rated as 74 per cent good to excellent.
– Idaho: Just 43 per cent of the crop is rated good to excellent, while 57 per cent of the crop is rated as fair to poor.
