WINNIPEG, Aug. 16 (CNS Canada) – The current range for grower bids on selected special crops has been released by Stat Publishing (statpub.com). Prices are for farmer dressed, delivered to cleaning plants in Saskatchewan in Canadian cents per pound:
– Large green lentils: No. 1; 40–43
– Medium green lentils: No. 1; 37–38
– Small green lentils: No. 1; 36–39
– French green lentis: No. 1; 37.50–38
– Desi chickpeas: No. 1; 10mm, 57-69
– Kabuli chickpeas: No. 2; 10mm, 52.50-56
– Field peas: Green, No. 1; 7.80-8.50

Kharif crops, those grown during the monsoon season, are said to be under threat in the Marathwada region of India due to low rainfall. While other regions are battling floods, which have caused 115 deaths and affected millions of people so far, farmers in the Marathwada region are waiting for monsoon rains to pick up to revive stressed crops. The area saw only 37 per cent of normal rainfall in July. Rice, corn and some pulses, such as black gram, are among key kharif season crops
Growers in Idaho have high hopes for a new yellow dry bean developed at Oregon State University. The bean, called Patron, has been championed by the Idaho Bean Commission, which helped fund the research. Idaho is the top dry bean seed producer in the United States, but only two per cent of those are yellow varieties. Patron comes with much improved resistance to bean common mosaic virus.
