Pulse Report: Chickpea price drops in Australia

Winnipeg, Dec. 1 (CNS) – Chickpea prices in Australia have
dropped following uncertainty over huge import tariffs imposed
by the Indian government on peas, according to the Moree
Champion. Chickpea prices were strong earlier in the season at
AUD$1,100 per tonne but have dropped to AUD$700 per tonne during
the peak of the Australian harvest.
Pulse acres in Canada are expected to plunge next year,
according to analysts in a Western Producer article. Brian

be down one million acres in the wake of India’s 50 per cent
import duty on peas. Clancy doesn’t have an estimate for lentil
acres but believes there will be a substantial drop in reds, as
India has a large stockpile of pulses.
Richlea #2 lentils have fallen in price, according to the
latest data available from the Prairie Ag Hotwire. Richlea #2
lentils dropped two cents in price to 29 cents per pound. Laird
#2 lentils are hanging steady in price, however have fallen half
a cent in price over the week to 32.5 cents per pound. French #1
lentils have dropped two cents in price this week to 40 cents
per pound.
