DuPont Canada’s Group 2 herbicide Muster has picked up federal regulatory approval for use in oriental mustard crops as well as a wider window of application in sunflower crops.

Muster (ethametsulfuron-methyl) can now be used to control wild mustard, flixweed, hemp-nettle and smartweed in oriental and brown mustard, and for suppression of stinkweed in mustard crops, said Travis Schoonbaert, the company’s cereals and oilseeds product manager, in a press release Wednesday.

The wider window for use in sunflower crops allows sunflower growers to use the product from the one-leaf to eight-leaf stage of the crop.

That means “greater flexibility to (sunflower) growers who are trying to manage ideal timing from the perspective of both the crop and the target weeds,” the company said.

Muster is also registered for control of broadleaf weeds in conventional canola and can be tank-mixed with Assure II for grass and broadleaf control. Spring wheat, durum, barley, oats and flax can be planted 10 months after Muster is applied.
