Training programs will soon be offered to help Ontario farmers mentor the next generation of agricultural leaders.
The federal government on Tuesday announced $1.1 million for development of leadership programs, to be delivered by a partnership between the Centre for Rural Leadership, 4-H Ontario, the Ontario Rural Council and the Foundation for Rural Living.
Funding will go toward development of leadership programs and conferences, drawing on well-respected leaders and their experience to mentor program participants. This project is expected to benefit the province’s farm organizations by helping build “leadership capacity,” the government said in a release.

“Collaborating on the delivery of the initiatives will strengthen the overall project and ensure strong leadership development opportunities are made available to current and emerging leaders across rural Ontario,” said Rob Black, the Ontario executive director with the Centre for Rural Leadership, in the release.
“The development of the next generation of leaders for Ontario agriculture will benefit Ontario’s rural sector, the agricultural sector and everyone in the agri-food value chain,” said Fred Wagner, treasurer of the Agricultural Adaptation Council, through which the federal funding will flow.
