UAP has rolled out a new slow-release nitrogen fertilizer that it says will allow farmers to plan around a “more targeted” foliar N application later in a growing season.
The product, called N-Pact, is a patented 26-0-0 Triazone foliar formulation, which “allows better foliar uptake without the leaf burning often associated with other nitrogen fertility programs,” UAP product manager Brodie Blair said in a release Monday.
UAP’s own studies, he said, show N-Pact is 31 per cent more efficient in foliar uptake than other sources of nitrogen, such as urea, nitrate or ammonia.

N-Pact can be tank-mixed with “most other herbicides, insecticides or fungicides” and can also be used in irrigation, said UAP, a major retail arm of Calgary fertilizer firm Agrium since May this year.
“At a time when growers are thinking about the nitrogen levels in their soil as focus turns from harvest to the 2009 growing season, they can now take advantage of new technology to better manage their nitrogen fertility,” the company said.
“What we’re saying is apply less nitrogen to the soil now and then do a tissue sample to measure need for nitrogen later,” Blair said.
“You can apply additional nutrients later as required for filling and protein. It’s easier and more efficient.”
