Ag chem firm Valent Canada’s broad-spectrum weed killer for soybean growers will now be handled and sold in Canada by Nufarm.
The Calgary-based Canadian arm of off-patent herbicide firm Nufarm will handle all sales, shipping and billing for Valtera, Valent’s Group 14 flumioxazin herbicide, effective immediately as part of a new “strategic alliance” the two companies announced recently.
Any product orders or technical questions related to Valtera should now be routed to Nufarm’s toll-free number, the companies said.
Valent, headquartered in Guelph, launched Valtera in 2009 for control of broadleaf weeds such as eastern black nightshade, lamb’s-quarters and pigweeds, including Group 2- and triazine-resistant biotypes.

Nufarm Agriculture’s general manager Yvonnick Jambon described the product as the “gold standard” for eastern black nightshade control in soybeans, and said it would help strengthen the company’s row-crop product portfolio.
Valtera, he said, would create “new and exciting opportunities for us in this vital Canadian market.”
Pricing and programming for the product are already launched for the 2011 season and won’t change as a result of the sales agreement, the companies said.
Valent country manager Todd Younghans said partnering with Nufarm on Valtera will create “efficiencies” for Valent, in turn improving service for customers in Canada.
