Canadian dollar and business outlook

WINNIPEG, May 24 – The Canadian dollar was mostly unchanged against its US counterpart on Wednesday.

The loonie was steady ahead of a monetary policy decision from the Bank of Canada later today.

Analysts largely expect the BoC will hold rates steady.

At 8:45 CDT Wednesday, the Canadian dollar was at US$0.7400 or US$=C$1.3313, which compares with Tuesday’s North American close of US$0.7413 or US$1=C$1.3490.

In Canadian domestic data, farm cash receipts for Canadian farmers totalled C$16.1 billion in the first quarter of 2017, up one per cent from the same quarter a year earlier, Statistics Canada said in a report on Wednesday.

The TSX was down 29.81 points at 8:45 CDT Wednesday morning to sit at 15,447.13
