Canadian dollar and business outlook

WINNIPEG, June 8 (CNS Canada) – The Canadian dollar was mostly steady against its US counterpart in early activity on Thursday.

The loonie was positioning ahead of an announcement from the Bank of Canada’s Stephen Poloz on developments in the country’s financial system, expected at 9:30 CDT Thursday.

At 8:55 CDT Thursday, the Canadian dollar was at US$0.7409 or US$=C$1.3497, which compares with Wednesday’s North American close of US$0.7412 or US$1=C$1.3492.

In Canadian domestic data, buyers of new homes in Canada saw prices rise 0.8 per cent in April, the largest monthly increase since May 2016, Statistics Canada said in a report on Thursday.

The TSX was up 3.65 points at 8:55 CDT Thursday morning to sit at 15,373.79.
