Canadian dollar and business outlook

WINNIPEG, Aug. 16 (MarketsFarm) – The Canadian dollar was slightly softer relative to its United States counterpart Wednesday morning.

At 9:02 a.m. CDT Wednesday morning the Canadian dollar was at US$0.7405 or US$1=C$1.3504, which compares with Tuesday’s close of US$0.7417 or US$1=C$1.3409.

Wholesale sales in Canada were down by 2.8 per cent in June, hitting C$80.5 billion, according to a report from Statistics Canada. The overall number excluded petroleum products, along with grain and oilseeds, due to a lack of historical data.

Crude oil was firmer, with West Texas Intermediate up by 0.51 per cent at US$81.40 per barrel.

The TSX was holding relatively steady, down only 2.96 points at 9:02 CDT, trading at 19,896.83 points.
