Glacier FarmMedia — The Canadian dollar was stronger relative to its United States counterpart Wednesday morning, with gains in crude oil providing support for the energy-linked currency.

At 9:00 a.m. CDT the Canadian dollar was trading at US$0.7141 or US$1=C$1.4004 which compares with Tuesday’s close of US$0.7132 or US$1=C$1.4022.

Crude oil was underpinned by optimism the U.S. may be making progress on trade negotiations with India and China. West Texas Intermediate was up by 2.46 per cent at US$58.65 per barrel.

The TSX was up by 60.46 points at 9:00 CDT to trade at 29,949.28.
