Canadian Dollar and Business Outlook: Little movement for loonie, crude oil

Glacier FarmMedia – The Canadian dollar was virtually unchanged on Friday morning.

     The loonie was at US$0.7349 or US$1=C$1.3607 as of 8:33 a.m. CST, compared to Thursday’s close at US$0.7350 or US$1=C$1.3605.

     The United States Dollar Index was up 0.11 of a point at 97.04. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today that the country’s annual inflation rate declined by 0.3 of a point at 2.4 per cent.

     Crude oil prices retreated slightly due to conflicting reports out of Iran as well as the resumption of peace talks between Russia and Ukraine set for next week. West Texas Intermediate was down US$0.11 at US$62.73 per barrel. Brent crude oil was down US$0.01 at US$67.51/barrel.

     The TSX/S&P Composite Index dipped 6.53 points at 32,458.75.

     Gold jumped US$78.80 per ounce at US$5,027.20.
